Aquatech is a proven leader in wastewater treatment and proud to help breweries prosper in the face of rising surcharges and discharge regulations. Through modularized water and wastewater treatment solutions with lower capital costs, smaller footprint and flexible operation we effectively solve your facility’s water-related challenges.
Aquatech understands the unique water discharge challenges and associated $/bbl surcharges that breweries of all sizes deal with. While there are many potential options for handling brewery wastewater, most of them come with their drawbacks of either (1) low reliability or (2) high system complexity and cost. This unfortunate trade-off is caused by the relatively high-contamination effluent produced by brewing processes. Aquatech’s BioMODTM suite of treatment products addresses these challenges.
Given our 40 years of experience operating large biological treatment plants around the world, Aquatech is recognized as a global leader in wastewater treatment design, engineering and operations. However, we’ve seen that many industrial facilities require a smaller solution with the same treatment quality to maximize value. The BioMOD line of mechanical, aerobic and anaerobic treatment systems was developed to address this need, and has become especially applicable in breweries due to the relatively high water to product ratio of beer, along with the high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) & Total Suspended Solids (TSS) associated with a typical facility’s wastewater. Given that the US brewery industry deals with nearly 35 billion gallons of wastewater per year among its 9,000 breweries, BioMOD can be very effective in producing reusable water and reducing surcharges at the facility level. More info on these products can be found [here]. A summary of the overall value delivered by our team is summarized below: (I don’t like the 35 billion gallon figure, it’s too big and foreign. Breweries generally are not looking for water reuse. They are looking for compliance, small size, inexpensive (or financing, or design, build, own, operate models), reliable, simple. The link above needs to go to something specific for small brewers. The focus of this whole page, I believe, needs to be brewers below 50,000 bbls/yr of production. I’ve heard the average size of a brewer member of the Brewers Association is 500 bbls/yr.
- Packaged, Easily Installable Systems: Treatment can be deployed as packaged, standard freight skids which require minimal installation at site. This advantage is crucial for breweries in remote locations or with limited space.
- Unparalleled Experience in Treatment & Recovery: 1600 installations in 60 countries, including those for facilities requiring novel wastewater treatment solutions. Many of these implement Zero or Minimal Liquid Discharge in water scarce regions. Additionally, Aquatech uses our own Title 22 Compliant MBR membranes (EnviQ).
- Total Water Management approach: Providing a complete, simple solution which addresses both waste disposal and water recovery needs. Whether your brewery is dealing with nutrient pollution or organics removal issues, we can address it with our vast solutions portfolio
- Water-Technology-as-a-Service Model: Remote monitoring, operational assistance and O&M service on 24/7/365 basis so that you can focus on what you do best.
- Competitive Financing Options: Leasing, pay-per-gallon, DBOOM options & more are available based on your preference.
You will likely see a majority of your BOD and TSS coming from your brewhouse. Aquatech can work with you to find the best strategy of dealing with this waste, ranging from side-streaming to energy-positive anaerobic treatment. We also work on reuse strategies for breweries with our patented EnviQ MBR technology, something which has gained special prevalence in the West Coast. MBR
Aquatech’s BioMOD™ MBR (Membrane BioReactor) provides proven wastewater treatment with a flat sheet membrane configuration to reduce fouling and a breakthrough reverse diffusion technique to give a better control of flux, while providing optimal energy consumption and UF-grade product quality. For more information, click here.
MBBR
Aquatech’s MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) provides proven wastewater treatment and recycling to a broad range of industries at the highest unit capacity (up to 1800 m3/d) and lowest energy consumption (1.75 kWh/m3) or less for moderate wastewaters) on the market. For more information, click here.
AnMBR
Aquatech’s AnMBR (Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor) technology provides cost-efficient wastewater treatment and recycling to a broad range of industries at ultra-high fluxes (30-35 LMH), low footprint (~50% lower than competing anaerobic products) and low excess sludge (40% reduction from competing processes). Furthermore, the BioMODTM AnMBR is the first such technology operable in both mesophilic and thermophilic conditions due to its use of CeraQ™ ultrafiltration membranes.
